Numbers

In Beauty Products, Music, Retail Therapy on June 9, 2011 at 2:25 pm

When I was applying for university, I had to write a personal statement.  The statement where you sell yourself, where you convince the dean that you are worthy of entering the university.  I can’t remember much that I wrote in that piece of paper eventhough it went through multiple counts of versions.  But I do remember one thing is that, I love numbers.  Sounds like a geek, too bad I am one. But there is some truth in it that I still like numbers. Not so much in my work but my new obsessions. I am obsessed with 2.55, J12, V8 and now the roman numeral vii! What have they got in common – unafforadable! Dreaming of my Chanel bag, my Chanel watch, my Maserati GT and now a Dior watch! Received the email about the launch this morning, went to the site and it’s truly inspirational. Even the music of the film is inspiring and reminds me a lot of Mylene Klass, one of my favourite musician.

Why 8? Because it embodies the 8 different facets of House of Dior:

1) Haute Couture

2) Architecture

3) Essence

4) Silhoutte

5) Elegance

6) Preciousness

7) Expertise

8)  Eight – Because 8 is Dior’s favourite number and is the only number in roman numerals on the watch. How brilliant is that!

p/s: my favourite number is 7

Enjoy Mylene Klass and this is her mix of Krwling

especially the transition at the first minute and Bach’s Toccata and Fugue mix

Materialistic moments

In Accessories, Beauty Products, Retail Therapy on April 8, 2010 at 2:50 pm

Think I’m going to reward myself (not sure for what achievement) or rather pamper myself like I always do.  Have been quite tough few months but I deserve to do something nice for myself.  I feel like retail and beauty therapy.  I definitely wanna shop.  Need my essentials, black pumps and a new handbag wouldn’t hurt.  Seriously considering this (see below)… but it costs a bomb.  Perhaps not till I’m much older and earning more stabilised income.  Friends called to tell me of job openings that pay so much more.  But I think I will stay as even those jobs pay well, I don’t think it is what I want to do and I shouldn’t be running back and forth without any focus.  Besides I enjoy the work apart from the late hours and unjustifiable pay that wouldn’t allow me to own one of this (see below).   I sound materialistic but hey why do we work? To buy happiness right?

Another thing that I want to do is beauty therapy.  Hair cut perhaps a lil bit of highlight of dark RED! Long overdue threading, mani-pedi and spa..ooohhhh

Looking forward to it! Hope I have the time …

p/s: Btw, did you know that it is called the 2.55 because it made its first debut in February 1955 by Coco Chanel herself.  Do you think my fate will end up like hers? Well, except the fashion designing skills (but hey who knows, maybe I can wake up tomorrow morning with the ability to sketch and stitch!) – dreammmmmmm

Foundation…and crazy for Dior

In Accessories, Beauty Products on February 16, 2010 at 9:36 am

Just like you prime a wall before you paint it, you can prime your face before you apply foundation.  They actually work much like a moisturizer under your foundation does: they ease the application of foundation and are meant to create a barrier between foundation and skin.

Makeup artists swear primers go one step further than moisturizers: They’ll even out skin tone, help your makeup stay on longer and absorb oil with salicylic acid.

Other benefits, according to Laura Mercier:

1. They allow foundation to “stay put” in hot weather.
2. Help prevent skin from absorbing talc and pigment from your foundation as well as preventing talc from drawing oil from the skin.
3. They contain botanicals such as lavender, orange, jasmine, rose, geranium, grape, kiwi and aloe extracts to soothe and refresh the skin.

If you don’t want the added step of a primer to your beauty routine, you can slather on moisturizer before makeup application, says Linda Wells, Allure’s beauty editor, in her book ‘Confessions of a Beauty Editor.’

The best primers I think is from Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier.  But I’m wearing Dior’s skinflash just because I think the brush concept is just brilliant.  It works as a primer and touch-up and it is all clean!  It even comes with a velvet blue cover (how exclusive).

My biasedness towards Dior makeup is so transparent.  Speaking of which .. I have always wanted one of these travel kit!  And of course those jazzclub bags which will fit the makeup pallete perfectly!

Basics of bath

In Beauty Products on February 10, 2010 at 2:17 pm

Today I was in a cleansing mode: body cleansing.  The maid came today to clean up the house so my bath tub is spankingly clean.  So with my aromatherapy candles, my crystal bath soap and my various face masks; I dipped myself in the warm bath water for at least half an hour.  Cleaned myself up; did the basics like shaving, tweezing the brows and cutting my finger nails – feels extremely clean now.  Then I found this article and perhaps I will try this regime next time.  However, I really think it is some formula for soap.  Where can I find glycerin??  Do you think I can be like Cleopatra if I bathe in milk? Perhaps this can be my next experiment…

Basics of Bath: A Daily Ritual Basics of bath are not changed from ancient times. Bath is not only the part of daily beauty regime but it is the most important health routine. To keep healthy, one has to take a nice bath daily. To cleanse and beautify whole body at one time, bathing is the only regime, which is followed all over the world.  A bath cleanses body but also energizes it, freshens it up and relaxes the tired body. Besides relaxing the body, it relaxes the mind also. After a nice bath, a person does greater amount of work and if it is taken at night, we can sleep more deeply and calmly with relaxed mind. Another thing which is important that water used for bathing can be warm or cold, which depends upon the climatic conditions and the personal likings. For some, cold water is a relaxant while for others, warm water is must for bathing. Generally in cold weather conditions, warm to hot water is used for bathing and in hot and humid weather conditions, there is nothing like a cold water bath. Importance of Basic Bath Basics of Bath is the same for all the people all over the world. Bath can be taken once or twice daily according to the climatic conditions of the place, skin type and the kind of work person is doing. Bathing includes cleansing of all parts of body like cleaning hair, eyes, nose, hand legs and all. Our skin has pores as its vital part. Pores accumulate dirt, grease and sweat and these pores get clogged. To remove all these, a daily bath routine is must. Otherwise our skin will not be able to breathe properly and will not excrete the waste of body. It will result in all sorts of diseases and allergies. According to basics of Bath, one must rinse body with clean water followed by some soap or bath salt to degrease the body and to remove dirt. Now scrub the body properly, which should not be harsh. Now wash off all the soap and dirt. Wipe out water by a soft towel to have refreshing you. Change basic Bath into Spa This is the basic bath routine. But from ancient times taking a refreshing bath are not only a routine but a preferred luxury also. There were scented spas and bathrooms with all the luxuries, needed for a beauty bath. Historically speaking, Cleopatra used to take daily milk bath to preserve her beauty, to keep her skin supple and glowing. You too can change your daily bath into a spa, by just some simple additions in your bathroom and bathwater. Simple bath recipes for adding to your basics of bath These bath salts help in removing dead skin, reducing the retention of fluid and enhance detoxification.

 – Mix one cup of sea salt or Epsom Salt, one cup of baking soda mixed with 10 drops of essential oil of your choice and ½ tsp. Of glycerin and get a very effective bath salt. Pour a handful in your bath and keep rest in the airtight jar for later use.

 – Mix 1 cup powdered milk with 1-cup baking soda and 3 Tb.Sp. of cornstarch. Add 2 tbsp of cream of tartar and 1 and ½ tbSp. Of cinnamon to make a cinnamon Soak.

– For preparing herbal Milk, you can mix 2-cups of powdered milk, 1-cup cornstarch and 2-tbSp of finely ground dried herbs. Store all the mix in airtight jars and jar should be shaken well before use. While bathing, take around ¼ to ½ cup of the mixture. Some other easily done addition to Basics of Bath are as follows

 – For refreshing bath, boil lemon peels and orange peels with water and let it cool and pour it in bathing water.

– To get rid of skin infections, boil some neem leaves in water and mix it with your bathing water.

– You can apply sandalwood powder paste to you body and rinse it off after some times while bathing. This relieves the body from effects of summer heat.

– To have a nice fragrance from body, add some rose petals to the bathing water. Other soothing baths, besides basics of Bath: mud bath and oil bath Mud bath is a therapeutic body experience, which relieves pains arisen from arthritis, rheumatism, joint inflammation and other problems. And also it increases the blood circulation. To nourish and condition the skin, there are some compounds found in the mud. An oil massage followed by a bath makes body supple, relieves stiffness of muscles, relaxes from tiredness and tension, and increases blood circulation. Mixture of oil and water makes the skin smooth and silky.

Good things come in small packages

Eve Taylor pre-blended face oil is not like other facial oil.  It works on my oily skin.  It gives you the perfect moisture without being too oily or suffocating your skin.  What more it gets rid of blemishes!  It has been ages since I’ve been looking for a product that works.  With this climate in Malaysia, it’s difficult to find a face moisturiser that doesn’t turn your face into a frying pan ready for eggs to be fried.

All in 1 bottle – it moistures and medicates and yes… it has a nice scent.  Just 2 drops and it works like magic!  It comes Face Oil No.1 to No. 5 depending on your skin type.
